The Anti-Company
Under Delaware law, a corporation is a legal entity that can engage in any lawful act or activity to maximize long-term value for its stockholders. It’s also basically a person. So, a way to think about what a corporation is is a person who MUST make money anyway it legally can, because, lets be clear, that is the culturally agreed upon way to maximize value for stock holders. Now, not all companies are Delaware corporations, but in the US most of the major ones are so this definition is a pretty fair definition for what people mean why they say “company” weather they realize it at all. This is what most companies required by law to be.
The key thing to see here is how MAXIMALIST the corporation MUST be. It must do ANY lawful dead to make the MOST money it can. The anti-company than is a deeply minimalist endeavor. The goal of the anti-company to do clear and discrete things to reduce its “stock holders” of the needed to make money.
This is not a pursuit of financial independence. That is individual pursuit to gain ownership in companies so to cover your expense and the anti-company is a collective action. The anti-company works to help all need less money not a small few have enough money.
The anti-company is not a collective version of FIRE as the goal isn’t to stop working (retire). The goal of the anti-company is to need less money so that everyone has independence to choose the kind of work they do. Work, in the anti-company, is a good thing not something to be escaped.
The anti-company is not anti-money. Money is a great tool. The anti-company is not anti-making-money, one should be paid for the work they do. The anti-company is anti needing to do work that maximizes profits. The anti-company is anti forcing people to do a money making activities. The anti-company does pay people. It pays them a livable wage. It does this by helping everyone need less money so that a livable wage works for the anti-company.
The anti-company is a partnership between all members of the anti-company with the express goal of helping people need less.
The anti-company earns money by 1) allowing people to support them via patronage and 2) selling tools and products that help people reduce their monthly cost of living.
